What is a digitech?

A photo digitech (short for digital technician) works closely with photographers to manage and optimize aspects of the photography process. They bridge the technical and creative elements, ensuring that the images captured meet the photographer’s and client’s expectations in terms of quality and consistency.

Why they're important:

Digitechs allow photographers to focus on the creative aspects of a shoot while ensuring that the technical details are taken care of, photos are backed up, and client has visibility to what is being captured. Digitechs can be an extra set of eyes and ears for the photographer, funneling useful feedback to help create the best work.

If you've worked with a digitech before you know role goes beyond technical expertise; while mastering the tools, software, and equipment is essential, strong communication and people skills are equally crucial. As a digitech, I'm not only managing the tether, image adjustments, and backups—I'm also the go-between the photographer, creative team, and client. Being an effective communicator ensures everyone stays aligned on the creative vision, while adaptability and experience help maintain a smooth and collaborative atmosphere on set. Balancing the technical with interpersonal skills is what makes any digitech invaluable to a successful day.
